To Don’s wife and family. Please accept my sincere condolences. Don and I worked together for quite a few years prior to his retirement at the Engineering Support Services Division of the Department of Transportation and Works. As many of you will know, he was the Energy Management Engineer for Government Facilities throughout the province. Don was a great guy, brilliant fellow and excellent contributor to the work of the Department. I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Keith Noel

From Don's family in Vancouver, David (Brother) & Erika (Sister-in-Law) - please accept our deepest sympathy Coll. Don was loved and respected by everyone who met him and we know it’s hard and it’s painful now, but we want you to know that you and Don will always be in our prayers. We hope you can find peace in remembering the good things in life that you and Don have shared. Don was a deep thinker and always thought things through before he chose to express an opinion. I recall very well, even from our childhood, that Don was the "quiet guy" in the family - someone who did not normally express his feelings or opinions and usually kept to himself. Don was a great bantam hockey player in grade school - he was the top goal scorer on his team for several years and he always reminded me about that and never let me forget it! Some quiet guy eh! Don's love of trains was one of his passions and he shared many of his train experiences and photographs with those who had the same interests. As an early teen Don used to wait at the train station in Point Claire in Montreal and talk the train engineers into taking him in the steam locomotive operator's cabin all the way to Toronto and back!! He followed his passion for trains and did what it took to learn more about it. I also recall that Don had a gold mine concession or two in NL - we don't know what happened to the mines but I recall him telling me that he would go deep into the bush and pound on rocks looking for gold. He always had the hope of finding the "Big One". He was the only one of the 3 brothers who earned a degree and he was the only sibling who decided to stay on "The Rock". May he rest in peace knowing that we all loved him. God bless you Coll and your entire family. We are wishing you the best and hope that you have the strength to deal with your grief; it is nice for us to know that your family is there with you to offer their support.

I wish to celebrate his life and a few of his accomplishments that was so deserved to be heard and known . Don had a serious passion for the Newfoundland railroad and preservation and history of it . During his retirement years Don spent pretty much every day working on this subject and documenting the beginning and ending of the Newfoundland railway . He used to google map to show all of the hidden railway tracks that are now covered over and forgotten with time . A civil engineer by trade and was partially responsible for the building of the arterial Road .A truly Massiveup undertaking . I can recall looking at the blueprints of the entrance by the old train station going into the city as they were trying to figure out how to make it work . I remember him taking me up there for a drive along the south side hills when it was being constructed . We were driving along and then we stopped in front of a mountain of rock that was going to be blasted away to the continuation of the highway it was a strange sight to see that’s as far as they had gone at that point we’re preparing to do more blasting to continue the rest of the highway pretty amazing . He spent years and years and years on that project probably the biggest project he had ever worked on . Don was also responsible for the building design and implementation of the weight scales where truckers have to pull in to get Weighed on the TransCanada highway . I had spent many hours with Don showing the Little A frames that look more like little cottages then weighscales he was proud of that . Every time I pass by one I used to think that’s the house that Don built . Don had a knack for capturing history before it was history . He also had a passion for aviation he was acknowledged in the American Journal of aviation for his vintage photos of World War I and two Aircrafts . He used a 35 mm camera and captured many shots of extremely rare Aircrafts they were all on slides . He also captured a great deal of photos for my own personal career in the music industry thank God he did I have copies of a lot of those photos that he made for me . Don was a man of few words very quiet person smart intelligent caring man . He will be missed never forgotten always cherished a friend and a wonderful brother and will always remain in my heart soul and mind forever . I loved him very much . He’s with the Lord now and at piece in his final resting place . Will be together again sometime in the future . Your little brother Den

Aunt Coll, My heart goes out to you today and always. Don was such a wonderful person to me. So very kind, considerate and soft spoken. Over the past few days I find myself thinking random things about Don. I had so many fun times and laughs with you both over the years. "Crazy Monster" games, sleepovers which included my friends coming as well, watching those old homemade movies that you guys used to make. Racing paths in the snow for those remote control cars and building that Giant Snow Caterpillar on the street. I remember when you guys moved to Kelligrews and were doing the landscaping. Don spend more time giving us rides in the wheelbarrel than spreading all that topsoil. I wondered if you guys ever were Real Grown Ups! And I'm thankful that you were not. How many picnic tables did Don build? ...and every year he painted them a shade of brown. How many times did he renovate the rec room? How many Lawn mowers did he wear out - (mostly from leaving them out all year long)? The trees and the gardens have always been a sight to be seen. I look out and admire all the years of hard work that both you and Don put into the garden, greenhouse and flowers. It's such a happy place for everyone to come visit. I'm so thankful for Don welcoming me into your home to live. He always made me feel at home. Though he was a very quiet man, it will be especially quiet without him. Rest peacefully Uncle Don. Much love for you always, Lisa
