Obituary of Alexander Holden
Alexander (Alex) James Holden passed peacefully into the arm of the angels at St. Clare's Hospital on January 29, 2018 at the age of 83. He is predeceased by his parents James and Olive, his step father Hubert Rideout Sr, his sisters Marjorie and Gladys and special family friend Onslow (Butch) Savory.
Leaving to mourn and celebrate his life is his loving wife of 59 years Florence (nee Butler), two sons Brian (Donna) of CBS and Blair (Geri) of Middle Sackville, NS, his daughter Donna Dowden (Rod) of Seal Cove, his grandchildren Alexandra (Jamie), Joshua, Scott, Ryan, Nicholas, Luke, Jillian, special great grand-daughter Ava Rose, sister Gloria Fagan, brother Hubert Rideout (Kathy) and a special family to whom he was "Pop", Vera, Krista(Sean) and daughter Chelsea, Kirk (Ashley) and a large circle of family and friends.
Alex started his working career with Harvey and Company and continued with Catelli Five Roses as a traveling Salesman until physical injuries forced him into an early disability retirement. He was an active founding member of Masonic Lodge Conception No. 1679 S.C. and enjoyed fishing and a good game of growl at his summer cabin on Salmonier line.
One of his favorite sayings was, "As one door closes another one opens" and this saying gives much comfort at this sad time. He will be always loved and forever missed.
At Alex's request, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.
A celebration of his life will be held at The James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Kelligrews on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 1 pm.
