Charlie was my mother's favourite. When he was about five, his grandmother (Eliza) would take him to Cowboy Movies. After the first movie they saw, they then went to the Stirling Restaurant for Ice Cream. Charlie said the Ice Cream was too cold and asked the waitress to put his Ice Cream in the oven to warm it up.
Another one is about a lady, Jenny who would visit Lillian; Charlie didn't like her; when she came Charlie and Bernard would go half way up the stairs to see into the kitchen. Charlie had a caulk pop gun aimed at her (playing cowboys was his favourite fun); looking into the kitchen Bernard said shoot her Charlie; shoot the $0#b Charlie.
A couple of years later I was born and Charlie was wheeling me out the road in a carriage, I'm sure my mother wasn't far behind. He met Jenny and she said who is that you have there? Charlie said, to make her mad, (it's my uncle). Jenny said, every time I see you, you are saucy and telling lies. However this time he was telling the truth, I really was his uncle.
Some years later when Charlie was probably sixteen or just turned seventeen, he would leave Templeton's on Tuesday after work, Wednesday was a holiday. He would stay on the bus till it came to the Old Broad Cove Road and then walk to his grandmothers place, drop his bag and go on to Aunt Glady's place where Irma was boarding. He would spend the evening there and come back to his grandmother's to stay all night. The next day he would read books and playing cards with me. I didn't need a note to stay out of school that day because Irma was the teacher. He would visit Irma again that night and then walk out around Winsor Lake to his home on the Cove Road to be ready for work on Thursday.
Irma can fill in the stories from here. I'm so sad, Abner.

I had the complete pleasure of knowing Charlie when visiting the Paint Dept at Templeton's on Water Street in the 70s and right up to 2014. He was such a knowledgeable paint man and such a sweet unassuming man. He went out of his way to ensure that the customer got exactly what was needed and you always left the store smiling because of his delightful, and always cheerful manner. I spoke to him at our office in November past and he was I think about to retire. His pleasant, pleasing manner was still the same. So sorry to hear of his passing and my sincere sympathies to all is family. Barb Hiscock

Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the Tucker families. We had the pleasure of playing Crib Tourneys with Charlie on Saturday afternoons at Tols'. He was always happy go lucky and a pleasure to be in his company. We are sure Charlie will be sadly missed. Take care and stay strong.
