With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of Rita Kennedy, 83, on October 28th, 2024. Born on Bell Island, lived in Holyrood for most of her life.
Rita was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and honorary member of the Star of the Sea. She loved a night out dancing, playing cards and bingo, the seniors club and BIS bus trips.
Predeceased by her Husband, Ted Kennedy; her parents, Peter and Gladys Brown; her brothers, Brendan, Ronnie (Marg), Micheal (Phyllis), Eddy, Pete; her nephews, Billy McDonald, Paul Brown, Tommy Jr. Brown; her in laws Mary Kennedy Cummings, Mary Brown, Alice Kennedy, Marg Peddle (John), Ann and Fred McDonald, Jim, John, Stan Kennedy
Survived by her children, Glenn Kennedy, Beverley Grouchy (Gary), Shawn Brown (Catherine); grandchildren, Kim Grouchy, Robyn Grouchy (Ryan), Melissa Grouchy (Matthew), Amanda Brown (Chris), Shawna Brown (Brent); great-grandchildren, Arianna, Harper, Rowan, Martin, Finley, Piper; siblings Annie, Jim, Joan, Theresa, Doreen (Angelo), Janet, Tom, Mercedes, Ed, Gen Kennedy as well as many countless nieces, nephews and friends.
Special dedication to her loving friends and neighbours especially the Brophy family, the Bennett family, the Grouchy family, and a special thank you to the staff and PCAs at Pleasant View Towers and the Health Science Center, Rita Walsh, and her respite worker Marissa, as well all those who provided her care, comfort and friendship during her long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Visitation in Hickeys Funeral Home in Holyrood on Sunday November 3rd from 2-7pm. Funeral will be at Holycross parish on Monday November 4th at 9am with a burial to follow at St. Michael's Roman Cathoilc Cemetery on Bell Island.
