To Lynn and all your family,
I am so very sad to know that your Mom has passed away. As far back as I can remember, Aunt Madge was always the same: the way she looked, always smiling, never upset, finding the littlest things that you and I said or did tickling that laugh from her. She found delight in everything. When you weren’t allowed out on the road, we could play in the Little Garden and have Queenie with us, or come up through the grove and play in my yard. But we knew she meant it when she said don’t go outside the fence! I don’t know if you were ever allowed to cross the main road to go to Tucker’s! All the Barbie clothes she made, her baking, always at church, in the ACW, every shower on the road, Aunt Madge was quietly there, tirelessly doing everything that needed to be done. I remember being so proud when the school had a field day and our moms walked out to the field together to watch the sack jumping and potato & spoon races. And her vast knowledge of practically everything. It was amazing. She was the same to me then as she was the last time I spoke to her: Around 2015, I had to call her to ask her the details of Mother New Year. She always came to your house but never mine, on New Year’s Eve. My Katie wanted to know what that was all about, and your mom found it so funny that the tradition was still in my memory. All I knew was that you got money and I didn’t!
Aunt Madge was always the one constant that never changed, no matter what the year or the circumstances. I know that you will miss her dearly. You two were so close; it was an enviable bond that so many would love to have had with their mom. I have been missing her these past years and often wonder how you’re both doing.
Know that I am thinking of you and wish you the very, very best.
Take care,
Shirley

Don, Doug, Neil and Lynn; My memories of Aunt Madge go back as far as I can remember, and all of them precious. Even when Aunt Madge raised her voice, you couldn’t tell she had raised it. She was the mildest woman on Spruce Hill Road. I remember often walking down thru the grove and going in for a cookie. Mom would always tell me to knock before going in, but Aunt Madge didn’t care. She was a special lady. The longevity of her life helps to make her life one to be celebrated rather than mourned. I think she would want that. Losing your Mom; however; is hard at any age. Thinking of you all. God Bless. Rest in peace, Aunt Madge, and tell Uncle Willie I said Hi.
