Obituary of Daniel Lewis
Lewis, Daniel Joseph; June 9, 1937, to August 5, 2024.
Dan passed away peacefully at home, as he wished. He is predeceased by his wife Rosalene; his parents Richard and Helen Lewis, his brother Dick and sister-in-law Marcia Lewis; his sister Marg and brother-in-law Eddie Finn; his brother-in-law Nelson Sherran; his brother-in-law Roy Dwyer and his beloved cat Julie.
Dan was a proud member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in the 60’s, 70’and 80’s. He worked in a number of positions, as a Constable, including rotations as the traffic cop at the Prescott and Duckworth Street intersection and as a motorcycle officer (called the Blue Knights, at the time). Dan was also a proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Kelligrews for many years: he was the booking person for their club, tended bar and served as President of the Club. He was also a Kiwanian of the Year.
Dan leaves behind his daughter Colleen Stockley (husband Rod); his granddaughters Nicole Stockley (husband Shannon Sullivan); Jennifer Stockley (Fiancée Kelsey Piercey) and Amanda Stockley; as well as his little great-granddaughter, Aurora Sullivan. There is also a friend that has been like a son to Dan; David Earles, his wife Jody Stringer and their son Ryan (who Dan always called his “Buddy”), have been bonus family members to Dan for over 20 years. Also mourning his loss are his brother Jerry, sister Barbara Barnes, sister Mary Lou Whalen (husband Matt), brother-in-law Pat Dwyer (wife Ferne Williams) sister-in-law Mabel Dwyer, and his newest little cat Patches.
Dan will be missed by his nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. Rod and Colleen would like to especially thank his nephew Pat Finn, niece Louanne Ford (husband Terry), niece Carol Anne Lewis (husband Derrick Toope) and close friends, especially Dave Stevens, for visiting Dad over the years and taking the time to listen to his stories and views.
Special thanks to Comfort Home Care (Heather and Felicia) and to all the Home Care Workers who provided excellent care to Dan over the past couple of years, especially: Jasmine (who was with him from the beginning), Brenda, Roslyn, Theo, Dustin, and Sara.
The family will be accepting visitors at Hickey’s Funeral Home, 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 3 to 7 pm. Flowers are gratefully accepted, or donations to Iqaluit Humane Society (from where Julie was adopted) or to Heavenly Creatures (from where Patches was adopted), in Dan’s memory would be appreciated.
Dad/Dad-Dad/Grand-Dad-Dad, as he was called by his girls, was larger than life and his presence will be missed.
