I am so grateful for her generosity and for her support - she was so warm and welcoming to my husband when he was new to the family and we will always appreciate that and hold it close to our hearts. To Eileen's family in NL, the US , Ireland, and her co-workers at MUN, my thoughts and prayers to you all on Eileen's passing. I have known Eileen most of my life as I grew up in Kelligrews . We attended the same church and enjoyed many a social. Eileen was the go to person if you ever needed a mass card. Eileen and I both worked at MUN and at one point car pooled. Eileen's obituary was a true testament to the person she was. Always dropping a card or an email to let you know she was thinking about and praying for you. We looked forward to having her every Boxing day at my house for brunch. She loved to come and have a chat with the Tilley clan. And breakfast was one of her favorite meals and she didn't have many! Fly high with the angels Eileen. I'm sure your Mom and Dad were waiting for you with open arms. Please give Michele a big hug from me. your friend Maureen

At times like these people often reflect and wish we had "taken the time" to spend that few moments with an old friend or family member after they pass. Eileen would never have this regret. She always took the time to check in on you. She always asked about your family, how things were going, she knew your kids' names and how they were doing in school. Anytime my son would visit me here at work she would ask him about his school work, his swimming, his hobbies. I swear she knew more about him than I did at times. If you had a sick relative or going through stuff yourself, she would pray for you in times of need, even if you didn't realize that you were in need. I'm pretty certain she had a direct line to heaven and seemed to have an endless supply of mass cards. She was smart and determined when it came to her job. She had a beautiful soul that is very rare in this world and she will be missed. She and I would often toss friendly barbs back and forth at each other like brother and sister. Tormenting each other. I'll miss that the most. When my time comes and I get the the Pearly Gates I can't wait to stand there and say "Knock Knock Eileen".

I was shocked at the news of Eileens’ passing. I had the pleasure of working with Eileen for nine years. I was always impressed with her diligence and her ability to recall details of a transaction from years, sometimes decades, ago to help identify a current payment.
Eileen had an openness that was endearing and an interest in others born of kindness. Her sharp wit and shared interests always made for a welcome break to the work day. She was always quick with a story and her parents, cousins in New York, and friends and relatives in County Kerry were never far from her thoughts. I was so sad and shocked to hear of Eileen's passing, and really still can’t believe it’s true. We met when we were around 9 years old; we became fast friends and would find ourselves in the same class for the remainder of our school days. We also lived in the same apartment complex in Kelligrews and spent most of our waking time together. Fond memories include playing “the Partridge Family”, “skating” on the concrete floor (we had great imaginations!), listening to the top 10 and trying to be the caller that got in, guessing at the Tetley Tea contest, and learning to dance in her living room. Of course, Mrs. Barnable’s Tweedies and her potato soup would become among our favorite treats.
After high school, we both went to Trade School in Seal Cove and we carpooled. Eileen was the driver. We always left the house at ‘10 to 9’ for a 9 am class, and always arrived at 5 after, much to the wrath of our instructors. But Eileen was nothing if not committed to her beliefs, and she always believed that we would make it on time. We never did. We also played on the same dart team and bowling team that year and shared many great laughs.
Once we started work, career paths and life took us in different directions but Eileen remained a family friend. It is hard to remember family gatherings without Eileen there, and she always made a point of joining us if she could. In particular, she remained a true and loyal friend to our Mom for the rest of her life. Mom loved her dearly.
She often talked about her cousins in New York, Ireland, Ferryland and CBS and I know that she thought the world of each and every one. As well, Eileen had many friends, in both her personal and work life. My deepest condolences to her family and friends that were closest. I am privileged to have had her in my life.
Eileen, you were one of a kind, and a dear, sweet friend. Rest in peace.

Eileen was not only a coworker of mine for many years but also a good friend. We had a shared passion for reconciliations and getting things right to a tee because even a minor discrepancy could mean two larger offsetting errors. Eileen was a persistent problem solver and would not give up, no matter how complicated it was. She also had an excellent memory and recounted so many stories from her life so vividly. Eileen was also so funny with her story telling and could point out the irony in situations, always with good-hearted humour. She was so thoughtful to the many people she cared about. She was also such a reliable employee to the University and I do not think she ever missed a day of work in her near 40 years. That is what makes this so difficult is that I always assumed she would be there to visit and was looking forward to catching up. Eileen is irreplaceable and original. I am so sad to hear that she passed away. If anybody from the family wants to reach out to me to help with anything, please do so.

Although I only had the privilege of knowing Eileen the past 7 months through my new job at MUN, the past 4 months sat within chatting distance in our newly relocated offices, I felt like I'd known her forever. I heard her referred to her often as the MUN Mother Hen, she worried and cared about us as if we were her family - because we were in a way. Her dedication to her role here at MUN will be next to impossible to replace. She was "old school" and had a work ethic that was just exemplary. But what I will remember most is her humble, beautiful, gentle, caring soul. It is so hard today to be here and not hear her voice. The world needs far more people like Eileen. I'm sure Heaven welcomed her with the most amazing choir of Angels, she certainly has earned her wings. Fly high Eileen, you will be missed far more than you could have ever known.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. Eileen was my friend both inside and outside of the university for 20 years. She was always there for me in good times and bad. She called me her "work husband". It was certainly comforting to know that she would be there at 11:00AM every morning for coffee, and to share laughs and stories of what we'd each been up to. This year has been particularly difficult for me, and she'd always send words of encouragement, and to let me know that myself and my family were in her daily prayers. She exemplified what it means to be a true Christian. R.I.P my dear friend.

Deeply saddened to learn of Eileen's passing. While working with Eileen at Memorial University, I enjoyed getting to know her on a personal level. Eileen had a great sense of humor and a steadfast resolve in her values, responsibilities, opinions, and most of all her faith in her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I appreciated her thoughtful perspectives, keen wit, and the loyalty she had for the institutions and people she held close. Eileen was truly one of a kind, and will be truly missed.
