Obituary of Augustine (Gus) Tarrant
Augustine (Gus) Tarrant
It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Augustine (Gus) Tarrant at his residence in Kelligrews, Conception Bay South, on April 29, 2024, at 70 years.
Gus was born and raised in St. Lawrence, NL, with his family moving to the West Island of Montreal, Quebec where he met his life partner, Susan.
Predeceased by his parents, Alex Tarrant, Agnes Tarrant (nee Power) and parents-in-law John and Margaret Elsden.
Leaving to mourn with precious memories, his wife Susan (nee Elsden), special friend like a son Donald Scheuerman (Lauren), sisters Marilyn DeAbreu (Greg), Clare Forman (Steve), brothers Jim (Reah), Al (Gulnar), sister-in-law Catherine Saunders (Dave), their families, as well as extended family and friends across the country.
Gus was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved music, current world news, anything Newfoundland, the outdoors and always get-togethers with friends and family. With Susan's work, he and Susan moved from Montreal to Oakville and later Calgary. Upon retirement they moved to Newfoundland, a special place in Gus's heart where he wished to spend his final years. He loved living near the ocean and would do almost daily visits to admire the sea.
Sadly, declining health impacted Gus's ability to enjoy his final retirement years as originally envisioned. Gladly, many of the friendships Gus made throughout his life remained strong. He will not be forgotten.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation in Hickey’s Funeral Home 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South on Thursday, May 30, 2024, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. An Open/House/Toast to Gus will then follow the service at the house in Kelligrews from approximately 2:30 pm until 6:00 pm. Eventual interment will be in Ontario.
