To the family and friends of Dave Cable, I would like to express my most sincere condolences.
I met Dave when I was a young boy growing up in Peachy Town, he was older than I was and as he was so much bigger, to me he looked so much like Andre the Giant, he was our local giant.
Unlike Andre, he didn’t wrestle or fight anybody, he was our gentle giant. I remember him taking time to talk with us youngsters and really pay attention to us. No other young adults at that time other than Dave did that.
It was the small things the impressed me most such as one time when he brought out this huge box of crayons that had a sharpener built in. As we never seen such a box of crayons before, He took the time to show it to us and how to sharpen the crayons, we were amazed. Then he did the unthinkable, he gave them to one of the kids in our group, unfortunately it wasn’t me but what a huge act of kindness it was and now at 61 it is still as fresh as ever in my mind.
When I became a man and he was well established in his life, I read many of his articles to the town council, always in awe at how articulate he was. He was a successful businessman in building and renting houses and still took the time to chat and really listen to others.
He adored his mother as he built and named a road after her. If there’s a heaven, he is one who of the people who I would hope to be there.
Thank you Dave for living your life and being such a kind kindred soul who had much more influence on youth then you probably ever knew. RIP Friendly Giant RIP
