It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Wayne Thomas Fitzpatrick (age 76) on Friday August 11, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. Wayne was predeceased by his parents Bernard & Louise (nee Davis) Fitzpatrick, his first wife Ruby (nee Reid), his sister Bernadette Watts, brothers-in-lawJack Wakeham and Charles (Chuck) Carter, and his precious grand-daughter Claire (Bear) Hayward. Leaving to mourn with many wonderful and precious memories are; His common-in-law wife Edie (Edith) Sharpe. His daughters; Deanne Fitzpatrick (Jimmy Lacey and their daughters Caitlin Bishop (Lucas) andSiobhan Lacey (Sam), Renee Warfield (Michael), his son; Matthew Fitzpatrick (Carly), his stepsons; Aaron (Kristin) Hayward and Kurt (Ashley) Hayward, Daughter-in-law Nicole Dwyer. His precious grand children, whom he adored and loved;(“in order of age, because this was always a topic of many conversations Poppy Wayne would have with them and he’d loved to hear them tell him, “ who is the oldest or who is the tallest”); Abbigail Dwyer-Fitzpatrick, Olivia Hayward, Reed Pardy, Katelyn Dwyer-Fitzpatrick, (Claire Bear Hayward – deceased, however she was always mentioned in the “pecking order of their ages”), Evelyn Hayward, Jacqueline Hayward, Gweneth Hayward, Hailey Fitzpatrick and Ryerson Warfield. His Sisters, Sharon Zawaski (John), Gail Wakeham, Madonna Carter,Beverley Harquail (John), brother-in-law Larry Watts. Special Friends; Reg& Karen Lawrence, Derrick Molloy, Jerry Hynes, Don & Diane Butler, Lil & Henry Audet,Linda Squires, Tammy Burt, Dave Stone, Wayne Tucker and Gerry Spracklin, thank you for your many visits during these last few months of Wayne’s sickness. Wayne leaves behind many special nieces, nephews, a large of circle of family (including Edie’s family) as well as many friends, especially his KIN Family and his Irish Loop Family. Wayne had a love and passion for softball which started at a young age where he grew up in Dunville, Placentia Bay. In 1964 Wayne played with the Placentia Junior All-Stars, where he won his first provincial championship and repeatedit in 1965. From 1971-77 Wayne played in the St. John’s Senior Men’s Softball League and went on to play in numerous Leagues and Teams throughout Conception Bay South and St. John’s. During Wayne’s Softball Career, he was inducted into the Softball Newfoundland Hall of Fame in 1982, the St. John’s Hall of Fame in 1989, andthe Conception Bay South Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. In Wayne’s professional life as a C.E.T., PQS (F) (Certified Engineering Technologist, Professional Quantity Surveyor), working over 50 years in the construction and consulting industry which led him to start his own Professional Quantity Surveying consulting practice, Quantity Surveying Services Ltd., in NL in 1995. Wayne was a founding member of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) Newfoundland and Labrador chapter. Wayne was as passionate about his work life as he was about his home life and sports. Wayne was a Charter member of the Kinsmen Club of Conception Bay South, which is now known as the KIN Club of Conception Bay South. He spent 46 years of volunteering, collecting food and donations for the CBS and Paradise Food Bank during the CBS Santa Claus parade, helping set up and server the bar at the Kelligrews Soiree, helping with their many fundraisers, dances and ticket sales, helping with the Salvation Army Kettle at Christmas, the list of events was endless, and Wayne never tired of lending a hand no matter how big or small the project. To Wayne his KIN Family were an extension of his own Family. Wayne’s family would like to say a special thank-you for all you did for him throughout his battle with cancer to: Ashley Hayward (Wayne called her his “personal port Nurse”), Trina Hatcher, his Community Health Nurse, Dr. Hurley, his Palliative Care Doctor, Dr. McCarthy his Oncologist and Dr. Tibbo his ENT Specialist. Visitation in Hickey’s Funeral Home, 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South on Sunday, August 13th, 2023 from 2-7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Edward’s Parish (St. Thomas of Villa Nova Parish), Manuel’s on Monday, August 14th, 2023 at 9:30 am. Interment in St. Thomas of Villanova Cemetery, Topsail.
