Hugh (Hughie) Buckle

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh (Hughie) Buckle and Sandra (Sandy) Buckle (nee Davis). Sandy suddenly and peacefully passed away on 19 July, 2023 in her 77th year. Hughie while mourning the loss of his wife, days later also passed away peacefully on 25 July, 2023 in his 75th year.  

Sandy was a loving, strong willed, caring mother and wife who would love others in the same way as she would for her close family. Such love was seen through a personal gesture that turned into a community effort. Sandy wrote letters and knitted various items to Canadian Armed Forces soldiers, aviators, and sailors who deployed oversees in Afghanistan and beyond.  It was her way to show her appreciation for their sacrifices. Sandy’s efforts were recognized not only from the soldiers returning letters but also from the parents and family members of those soldiers who reached out to Sandy. They were thankful that someone remembered their loved-ones sacrifices.

 A special thank you, which cannot be quantified, goes out to Sandy’s long time friend Joanne for all the friendship, support, and love given to her over the years. A true-friend.

Hughie was a friend to all who knew him. A kind, charismatic, stubborn, loving husband and father that was there to lend a hand to those in need. He loved to be close to home (Newfoundland) enjoyed fishing and volunteering at the Topsail United Church. If in the middle of the night you needed help, Hughie would be there. His strong sense of community is only indicative of his love for his beloved Newfoundland. After returning home from Ontario, he found an all-encompassing peacefulness to his life.

A special thank you, which also cannot be quantified, goes out to Pat who after reconnecting with Hughie after quite a few years provided the friendship, support, and love to Hughie in the last few years of his life on earth that only a true-friend can give.

Left with fond and loving memories is their son Shawn Buckle (wife Heather), Abigail Buckle (granddaughter), Emma Buckle (Granddaughter), Oliver Buckle (Grandson), their son Stephen Buckle (wife Sabrina), Lucas Buckle (grandson), Victoria (granddaughter) and Malcom Buckle (Hugh’s Brother) with in-laws, nephews and nieces as well. 

Many thanks to the staff of the ICUs at Health Science Center and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for the special care they received. As well as all those who reached out and offered prayers during their time.
