Loretta, Scott, Michael, Uncle Bern, will always have a special place in my heart. I have fond memories of both he and dad at the house, sharing stories of their childhood on Bell Island, as well as his time working in the Waterford. I would sit listening for hours on end taking in every word. They truly are some of my best childhood memories. I take solice in knowing that they are probably right now trying to one up each other over who can spin the best yarn. Until we meet again Uncle Bern

Loretta and Family,
We were so saddened to hear of your loss. I worked with Bern at the Newfoundland Community Correctional Centre and after his retirement we maintained contact. Kevin and I enjoyed our many visits Bern and Loretta, our many long chats and catching up on all the news. Bern was a very kind, honest and compassionate person and this showed through in his interactions with others. He had a soft spot for the less fortunate and was always there to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed.

My heart is broken with news of Bern’s passing - heartbroken for his family and for those of us who knew and loved him and are mourning his loss. I’ve known Bern my entire life and from a very young age have always had a special place in my heart for him. That remained constant. I always looked forward to meeting him on my visits home. Bern was a kind man. He was a gentle man and I feel blessed to be able to call him my friend and a friend of my entire family. He will be missed. Bern was such a special part of who we've all become as extended family. That little sparkle in his eyes and that winning smile always made us feel so loved.
He was a generous soul and took delight in treating us to meals and little goodies whenever the opportunity arose.
We treasure the memories of meals together around the Thanksgiving and Christmas table, and the numerous summertime visits you made to Ontario.
Bern shared with us how much he loved his family and was especially proud of both Scott and Michael.

Our sincere condolences to Bern’s family. We met Bern over 30 years ago when he built the cabinets in our first house. We also have a piece of furniture that he made for us in our current home.
