We were blessed to spend a weekend with George and family in Fernie, BC in 2009. During this trip Geo taught my son Aaron how to play Texas Holdem. They spent many hours together playing the game that weekend. As it turns out Aaron may be lucky Geo taught him rather than me. Turns out George was a much better player. One evening while in Red Deer, Terry, George and I ventured out to the Red Deer casino for a poker tournament. There must have been 40 players entered and of course I thought I was the favorite to win. As a prelude to our tournament game, George, Terry and I had played a small game at the house. During this smaller home game George was the lucky winner. Of course it was all luck! Now I am experienced tournament player and this was a first for Geo. I was confident I would finish way ahead of George. It was early in the tournament and I end up in a hand with George. George picks up pocket 7's and I have ace/queen. The flop brings a queen and well I figure this is the end of George. To be nice I bet huge on the flop so he can fold his hand and then unexpectedly George raises all-in and I call. Here we are, I have a pair of Queens and Geo flips over his 7's. Im like "George, how can you call with that?" he says "cause I know another 7 is coming". Well George was right....he hits a third 7 and there I am knocked out by George the Great in his first casino game. 40 other players and George got me. George had a good time teasing me about this for many months afterwards. Geroge, in your honor I will forever aggressively play pocket 7's! May you rest in peace. Jason
